Eligibility criteria

Project proposals from Asia Pacific-based public or private sector organizations, university, or research and development institutions and non-government organizations will be considered. Individuals are not eligible for grants.

Please review the list of countries that are considered by ISIF as part of the Asia Pacific region. Proposals from countries not listed there will not be reviewed.

Each application will be assessed according to the following criteria:

Mandatory criteria

  • Clear objectives oriented towards specific issues or problems within ISIF scope.
  • Demonstrated need for outcomes proposed, including a justification for the methodology proposed to reach those outcomes. The groups of population whom will benefit from the development of the proposal should be clearly identified.
  • The project's ability to provide unique and innovative solutions to meet the needs of the targeted beneficiary group, and an assurance that the project is not simply duplicating existing efforts aimed at the same community.
  • Strategy to documentation the innovation processes and outcomes
  • Demonstrated capacity by the applying organisation to conduct and document the project effectively within the specified budget and time limits
  • Feasibility of the proposed activity
  • Solid participation and ownership by organisations from the developing Asia Pacific region

Other criteria

  • Applicability of the results to developing countries in the Asia Pacific region
  • Leverage of existing techniques and technologies to produce innovative practical solutions, rather than original 'ground-up' development or basic research work
  • Demonstrated opportunity to build innovative capacities within other organisations in developing Asia Pacific countries
  • Clear mechanisms for dissemination of project outcomes
In applying these criteria and selecting a slate of proposals for approval, the grants committee will give consideration to:
  • Regional diversity and balance
  • Alignment and balance regarding program objectives
  • Available funds
  • Replication of the proposed outcomes, showing potential for use in other countries
Availability of co-funding by other agencies or organisations is not a requisite, but any complementary funding must have to be declared in the budget section of the application form.
